We arrived at SMP after a couple of weeks off for round 4, scorching temperatures. As usual Friday was setup then afternoon practice sessions until the end of the day. Which we’re going as planned until Louie had a minor incident during his last session of the day, so following that we made the necessary repairs to the bike before we left for the day.
Saturday morning began with the usual preparations as well as getting Dave to do a much needed clutch change in one of the bikes following the practice starts Louie did at our trackday at Sanair the week before.

Another race weekend for the Raffa Racing team. We arrived at Icar Wednesday afternoon to drop off the trailor & setup the pits, it must have been 45 degrees with the humidex factor, a scorcher to say the least. Unfortunatly for this event our tuner couldn’t be there with us as he was booked to work with the Buell team, real bummer.
Thursday’s practice sessions only began in the afternoon, which was a good thing because the Pro sessions are very long & costly on tires. They went very good right away, Louie already running his qualifying times from last year.
Friday’s practices went even better, he managed to find even more time around the Icar layout only by making some minor suspension adjustments & gearing change.

Boy oh boy what an exhausting weekend!! We went in having to compete in 3 different classes on top of participating as an invitational in the CBR125 class. Louie was asked to be a teammate with one of the competitors of the CBR125 class in the endurance next august, so to prepare we figured he would race it this weekend to get some seat time.
Friday’s practices went great, right away he was running his race times from the previous year.

We arrived Friday morning slightly before lunch for Friday’s practice day, as usual we did the setup & started preparing the bike that Louie was gonna be riding that day.
The afternoon sessions went extremely well as he was already dipping in his best lap times from the previous year.
Saturday morning started bright & early as Louie got to work with Dave to sort out some last minute settings on the bikes. The lap times dropped even more to be either 2nd or 3rd fastest on average in every session out.
In the afternoon the skies began to threaten for rain….no worries here as we’ve got amazing suspension setups in those conditions.

We decided to return to Jennings GP to continue training for the upcoming season this past march 13-14th. Despite the significant distance, it’s worth every mile to drive down.
We picked up right where we left off the previous month & picked up some lower lap times along the way.
We arrived Friday morning early, both drained from the drive but very excited for the weekend as the weather was promising to be a lot warmer then the 1st time we went. Had a couple of hours sleep before we went to the track to drop off the tents.
Saturday morning we arrived early at the track to do the setup & attend the riders meeting. 9am rolled around & Louie was off, runnings faster times then the 1st test weekend we attended. By the afternoon sessions he was running 1:19’s comfortably.
Sunday morning the sessions went great, dropping more time. The afternoon session was used to scrub a set of tires for the scheduled 5 lap race.

Following the mandatory riders meeting for the race participants, away they went for the warm up lap. The riders were gridded, the flag was dropped & off they went in a storm, Louie getting the holeshot into corner 1. He ran his fastest times, mid 18’s, holding the lead for the first 2 laps. He crossed the finish line in very close 2nd place.
Overall very pleased with the weekend as the winter sacrifices have paid off.
We left Jennings Monday morning for the dreaded haul back home, 22 hours.
Looking forward to the April test weekend at Shannonville…see ya!!! |
