R.A.C.E. round 2, Shannonville, Ontario, May 14-16,2010 PDF Print E-mail

race 2 2010Boy oh boy what an exhausting weekend!! We went in having to compete in 3 different classes on top of participating as an invitational in the CBR125 class. Louie was asked to be a teammate with one of the competitors of the CBR125 class in the endurance next august, so to prepare we figured he would race it this weekend to get some seat time.

Friday’s practices went great, right away he was running his race times from the previous year.

Saturday morning we had lots of work to do with Dave as we had to prepare the 2 bikes for the different practice sessions for the different classes, following that all of the heat races, pretty sure Louie was the one who put in most laps out of all other competitors there.

He qualified 12th in the PRO 600 race, following a rough start as well as running off at the end of the backstraight, no worries…he would make up for it in the final on Sunday.

He then qualified 2nd in the Master’s Open class, duking it out with Larry Orde on his R1.  Following that he qualified 10th in the PRO SBK class for Sunday’s final.

Finally he ran the CBR 125 class, having to start at the back of the grid (as he is not a competitor obviously) he qualified 4th (but would still have to start at the back on Sunday). The kids all came to see him & mentioned that they had lots of fun.

Sunday morning was spent getting all of the preparations for the practice sessions  as well as getting the bikes ready for the finals, 3 main events, lots of work & planning.

1st race scheduled was the Pro 600 final that was right before lunch, Louie had a good start & moved our Yamaha R6 to 7th place at the finish line, which puts him 7th overall in the points standings, jus a hand full of points from 3rd place.

Between the Pro 600 & Pro SBK race we had a very long 3 hours to wait & prepare. The SBK final got shortened as they series was behind schedule so they ran 10 laps instead of the scheduled 12. In that race Louie finished 12th, battling it out with veteran racer Jim Proulx on his R1.

Following that we had a short break of 20 minutes before the CBR125 final (just for fun).

After that another short break before the Masters Open final. Louie got off the line in a hurry as he knew he’d be battling it out with fellow racer Larry Orde on his fast R1. They swapped positions several times in the 1st lap alone until Orde lowsided on the front straight, which put Louie in a very comfortable, unchallenged position for the win. He crossed the finish line 1st, along with a lap record to go with it.

We left the track overall very satisfied with the weekend, some very fast times & some good results with it. Louie is working very closely with his tuner Dave to continue the progress forward.

Looking forward to the Icar national round in our home town!!
